January: Mew
This band is made up of 4 swell kids from Denmark that had no idea of what they were doing but knew that they wanted to make beautiful music and guess what... their music makes angels jealous. They started in 2002 with Frengers: Not Quite Friends, Not Quite Strangers, but surprisingly they have not had any more releases. I would name bands that sound similar but it is very hard to compare Mew to anyone else. If you are down with high voiced lead singers, get down rhythmic beats and a twinge of electro, then these kids from Denmark are groovy and are sure to brighten that yellow hue on your teeth to a sparkling white. Suggested songs to download are "Am I wry, no", "156", "Her Voice is Beyond Her Years".

August: The Von Bondies
Pawn Shoppe Heart is the major label debut album from The Von Bondies, the Detroit-based quartet whose provocative persona, unerring instincts and alluring approach to the essentials of great modern music have elevated their status as one of today's most influential and innovative young bands after just one independent release.

July: Velveteen
The Velvet Teen is a rock trio from the northern Bay Area whose songs range from the beautiful to the bittersweet, with soaring countertenor melodies, tastefully delicate harmonies, and a unique sound not to be missed.

June: Pedro The Lion
Regardless of his modesty, Achilles Heel is classic, richly crafted and deceptively sweet, lyrically as sharp as ever. While examining dirty fray of the American dream, Achilles Heel is varied affair. While the past two albums were concept-narratives, the new album is more in line with with PTL’s debut, It’s Hard to Find a Friend topical, and not hinged on telling a linear tale, though it retains traces of the personal-political. “There is a sexist subtext, comments in the songs made from that perspective. The wife in “I Do” who is reduced to a function. In “Discretion”, the wife sleeps in her husband’s bed .
